Rock Of Gibraltar's success assures exciting future for Mount Nelson

Rock Of Gibraltar, the sire of Newsells Park Stud’s young stallion Mount Nelson, has had a June to remember with a fantastic Royal Ascot.    Last year’s Golden Jubilee Stakes (Gr.1) runner-up Society Rock went one better at Royal Ascot 2011 against a top-class international field to give Rock Of Gibraltar a Gr.1 success.

Earlier during the Royal Ascot meeting the Rock Of Gibraltar filly, Samitar, marked herself out as one of the best juvenile fillies seen in 2011 when running out an impressive winner of the Albany Stakes (Gr.3).  A brilliant few days for Rock Of Gibraltar was completed in Milan on 18th June when Rockatella won the Premio Royal Mares (L) in Milan, for the second year running.

All of which suggests his son, dual Gr.1 winner Mount Nelson, could have some exciting first runners in 2012.  Don’t miss his yearlings at all the major yearling sales this year, which include siblings to Gr.1 winners such as Equiano, Speciosa, and the recent smart, Stakes winning filly Miss Work Of Art.

Newsells Park Stud's other young stallion, Equiano, also looks to have a very exciting future as a sire if the impressive success of his sire Acclamation and his paternal half-brother, Dark Angel, is anything to go by.

The pair are first and second in the European leading two-year-old sires’ list, with Acclamation leading his son.  The pair have sired between them 24 European winners and the earners of over £350,000 in prize-money.

Acclamation and Dark Angel have had an excellent recent run of juvenile success at Stakes level, providing the first two home in the Empress Stakes at Newmarket and the Railway Stakes at the Curragh.

In much the same way as Dark Angel this season, Acclamation was quick to succeed at stud producing 24 individual British and Irish juvenile winners when his first-crop ran in 2007.

Equiano has every chance of following in their footsteps, as a dual Gr.1 winner of the King’s Stand Stakes as well as finishing third in the Gr.2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffite as a two-year-old, not to mention a full book of quality mares in his first season at stud this year.
